Sileage Harvest

We got a book out
and it's self-proclaiming,
about water-board wording
and daylight savings,
burning bushes, barns,
the hay needle's laughter
about the unicorn dying
while the Republician Party's
first headquarters
has gone to rust
down the road
from Crawfordsville

Yeah, down the road
from that little Ta'Iowa town
a pig farmer named Lester
is happier than hell
He's driving by
with a sleeping hawkeye
his parallax view
can tell no more lies
and the book sold now
to the controverted
stands in the way
of truth's memory
of the local sounds
in Crawfordsville

Cardinal square in sharp-cut corners
the coroner croons with each hard winter
Down the road from Crawfordsville
"climate is dead" for the motorhead,
fertilizer falls from the fire-up sky,
we need not ask for the season of why

Down the road from Crawfordsville
the maharishi's prayer is for a limo
in need of more corn-fed gasoline
and up the road:  the Wal Mart roadkill
is churned up dust from that shuttered
restaurant full of crap for the ghostly haunt

Down the road from Crawfordsville
that old shack is burning still
with bushels full of Monsanto seed corn
as the Synergy trucker waves goodbye
but even with buckets full of energy
we want heroes, well here are three
with eleven cups of free coffee, cigs,
some sanity for satiety, a kind kinda
Fire Safety Week society
for squeaking toys and dogs
to run free

Down the road from Crawfordsville
there's good folks out there, out there still,
while the eye in the sky is scorching 'em dry
they don't even ask the reason why
since loose lips sink ships, Holy Reagan cow!
The washing machine's roll is terror, Wow!
But the tenderloin's pound is a tender drum
of country folk who ain't ho hum
Can you hear them tommy tum tums
of the super farmer's food taught, like magic,
by a hand-held Fibonacci sequence tool

Down the road from Crawfordsville
the Big Box trucker armies
broke 'em up bad,
so forget those things you learned in school
about how Frodo kept the ring
and the Golden Rule, about how mega Hertz
made German tanks, cause techno Teotihucuan
gives good thanks at the dinner table, to the cops,
to your loan at your banks

Just let it roll by, let it fire its blanks,
'cause down the road from Crawfordsville
you can still greet the sun in sacrificial light
and the morning moon will come a day too soon,
so swim with the shore you supper fools ...

Down the road from Crawfordsville
worms from the air get carved up, cool,
the super farmer's just awe right
'cause disinformation is far outta sight
and William Shatner just plain lied
to those poor folks in Riverside
and east to west the buffalo returns
to beat the dust from the Bible belt's urn

Down the road from Crawfordsville
a bard's lament is the ever-giving quest,
despite the wormwood, yer guns, yer tongue,
you'll give great thanks when mourning is done

Down the road from Crawfordsville ...
Down the road from Crawfordsville ...
Down the road from Crawfordsville ...

 Da Vinci Blues

Consider the totality of stress
on the renaissance man.
Hustlin' to & fro',
talkin' wings off birds,
puttin' eyeballs on kites,
makin' list of daemons.
Start one thing no sooner
you're burning the next green branch,
jugglin' chaos and oozing blood
to congeal the form,
breakin' time's inscrutable pane a' glass
& gettin' no fuckin' sleep in the process.
There are days when ideas
rise in the sequence
of smoke holes to the ceiling,
and you gasp for air,
allowing the muse to take form.
There is no sex life, nada,
no time for introspection,
only invention and monk's tea,
as if mere air were a seven-course meal
before you turn to bed to weep.

What Would Water Do?

The water would run to work,
but turn, gone amok at the work corner,
toward the One-O-One
to drink a red eye and puff a smoke
in the early morning Ra

The water would pick up
trash along the way
but wait for more force
to finish the job

The water would arrive
on time and unplanned,
feeling out each empty
bottomland space
since every handmade
space is disorganized
differently

The water would percolate
in the apocalyptic heat,
catch the wind
and go fly a kite

The water would commit
murderous rage and recede,
unpleased, unsatisfied,
moving on the moon

Disparate de Miedo (Folly of Fear)

Mr. Death hangs over
as they tumble.
Time will get them.
But not today.
Senore rises
in an angel's robe,
Aretha Franklin
singin' praises,
man with a sword,
face sketched
in a tree.
Wind blowing to the West.
Away from destiny,
which is too easy
to deny.

~ Telluride, Colorado

Disparate Feminino (Feminine Folly)

Spreading the blanket
like a firemen's net,
six women in jest
with two male jugglers.
Dancing in delight,
each long-dressed lass
has a different opinion
on the topic.
The jugglers,
they've got it so lucky,
all those women working
to make them happy.
But note: in the net,
the husk of a dead donkey,
Goya's coy brush with death
hanging in the air.
If Autumn came any earlier
there would be a counselor,
a policeman,
& tax collector
at the door.

~ Telluride, Colorado

Bedford Toll Plaza

And the more I drive up
The interstate, the more the evidence
of love gets pissed away into the snow.
Pee free or die,
So the state flag Of New Hampshire
May one day say.
The pattern runs hot
And steam runs loose
From a new day's snow
On a hothouse day
In which a solar storm
Would electrify A lake of fire
In the sky
The pattern: A tree,
maybe an off-ramp signage shadow,
with pecked And puckered knotty holes,
Where owls perch and eagles play.
I took that last quarter
To the phone booth ...
Oh, if not for so many lonely
And cynical Winnebegos
That drive, ceaselessly,
To bridge the great divide.
The real question isn't
How to turn lead into gold,
But how to turn gold into soul.

Anne Frank with a Cell Phone

Mind still echoing

from what I call

"Anne Frank
...
with a Cell Phone,"

calling on CNN,

from Tripoli, Libya,

and it set

my mind spinning,

questioning

my own concepts

about weapons

and war and how

such things,

always abused

may be necessary

in the real world;

unsettled the sands

of my mind wonderin'

about how if not now,

then when? And so

if the answer is no

to "now"

then "when"

should be

a call to cast

all weapons

into the seas,

cast into the fire-zones

of limitless uncertainty

where evil, mythological

demigods are allowed

to have a field day

on the behalf

of the blood

of innocents

and the bravest

among us, should

be left to cower

in our own towers

of money and shame

and gargoyles be left

to decide upon

the true meaning

behind God's hidden name

and one mere flame

be the last one left

to remain to call out

to every single gunner

who ever heard

Anne Frank with a cell phone's

singular desperate call, when hope,

when peace was just a whisper

upon a planetary free-for-all ...

Where They Found Him

They found him beneath the stairs
staring at your feet, but seeing your head,
all back-masked and Beatlesque

Ordering in, ordering out:
They found him naked,
running mildly about

They found him lighter,
mightier, than the devout,
in Las Vegan, New Mexico

They found him in Las Vegas,
too, too, too, turning off the TV,
staring back at you.

They found him on a tape recorder,
after having recorded,
a mad chant to an enchantress

They found him, laying on his back
on a mattress, having failed to pay,
with coin, to breathe Fox News air

They found him everywhere:
In journals, on bathroom walls,
on the covers of novels unsold

They found him brilliant, lit,
deviated and sane: They found him
listening to Jefferson Airplane

They found him scraping ice
off some shorecraft
in British Columbia

They found him with forty eight
states of being on forty eight
motel room keys, thumbing dumb

They found him at the Ritz Carlton
chewing Wrigley's authentic
chewing gum on the run

They found him totalled
in a Thunderbird car
he called "Blue Desire"

They found him riding
the next red micro-wave wave
raiding irradiated green wire

They found him giving back,
the gift that keeps on giving ...
They found him. They found him.

They found him, finding you,
spitting blood on a white napkin,
they found him, finding you.

Silence is Stolen,
Technology ... AWOL

As the details roll in and over us let me take just a few moments of your time with the funniest thing I saw yesterday: A woman drove into the motel parking lot. She was a member of the U-Haul Army. Had a nice new-looking SUV loaded on a trailer on the back of the truck. It was packed full of stuff. She grabbed a 12-pack of beer from the passenger, closed the door, headed away, then the car alarm went off. It was night.

She turned around. Went click. Nothing happened. It just kept going oink ... oink ... oink ...

Mortified by the fact she was blasting the entire compound with news of her arrival, she, losing as little bit, just a little bit, of her efficiency, clicked again and again.

Still, nothing. The damn car alarm wouldn't stop blasting away.

Then she went back into the passenger side, opened the door. However, since it was packed full of stuff, she couldn't get to the steering wheel to get to whatever she needed to do to shut it off.

By now, based on the title above, "Science is Stolen," you might see where I am going with this: It's not completely unlike Jethro Tull's classic tune, "Locomotive Breath."

Not that funny, actually.

Anyhow, to complete the thought: She finally scratched her way through to the steering wheel. Clawed at that for a bit while the beeping continued. By this time, you could feel her total self-loathing and horror from fifty feet away. I felt sorry for her. Been there. Done that.

Next, she ran around the vehicle, carrying her twelve-pack of trendy beer, placed it on the side, and started fumbling. Again. This time, she worked so hard at it, her hands couldn't manage her own small motor functions. Next, the plastic handle of her vehicle broke. Still, bravely, she finally managed to get the driver side door open.

An American hero, by now.

She had become a noise pollution issue, but, was doing all she could do, based on what was the weird science of such devices, to get it turned off. Clearly, it was out of sequence. But how to get it back into the sequence?

Her kingdom for a sequence!

It still wouldn't stop. She stepped back, thought for a while. But the wind was blasting so hard that it blew the car door closed.

It was locked again.

You can't make this shit up.

She unlocked it, again.

Fumbled with the fuses.

Couldn't get that going.

I watched, in awe, at her tenacity. I wanted to help. But I didn't want to add to her misery. I was just wondering about the impacts to the motel guests. Lights were going on. Upstairs, I heard some guys from Pennsylvania yell, "What the fuck!"

The door opened again, closed again, due to the wind.

Finally, she, with great difficulty, managed to get her hood opened and disengaged the car battery. The vehicle alarm (did I mention it was an SUV on a trailer? ... I think so) had ceased.

In the night, with the world waiting for news on the nuclear disaster in tearfully torn up old mighty Japan, and millions of people crying themselves to sleep, I offered the best consolation I could when she realized I was watching the whole event.

"So," I said, across the parking lot to her, "It wasn't a completely perfect day."

The Big 'Get Over It' Dig
Bored with Obama-O-Rama dramatics? I am. What's your beef? Is he not this or that enough?
I don't think he's all that interested in party lines.  He had me at "all hands on deck" ... You?

These cats and kittens who say the world might be a better place --  if he weren't putting his best years and family on the line each day -- need to stop trying to campaign for something they will surely do no better job of, if elected, themselves. There must be something better to do.
Is he keeping his campaign promises? Who knows?

He was looking at a completely different world in 2007-2008. And so are you.
One thing I do know is none of these candidates realize what they are running for is World Leader Pretend.
You don't think Hilary Clinton isn't freakin' about the leakin' ... do you?

You, as I do, support the Wikileaks effort as a planetary citizen, but for my nationalist leanings, barbaric as they might be, well, you'd be hard-pressed to find an authoritative Democrat in Congress with access to national security directives who won't feel the same way.
This is a nation at war, after all.
For example, we got our asses kicked by BP in a chemical attack ... then the corporate internationalists started to zero in for the kill ... and if you haven't happened to notice, there's a string of awkwardly self-inflicted historical creation myth demigods basically stretching across areas just to the north of the Equator, from South America to Pakistan, who have drawn their lines against the West ... Meanwhile, back at the ranch ... all sides of my so-called family can barely speak to each other due to the civil war of disunion raging in our subdividing minds ...
Who's a Republican? Who's a real Democrat? Was that microbe on a meteorite really a Martian?
WTF!
Is there anything I need to vote on today!
‎... And Ronald Reagan. Get over it. He helped to cause this disaster. Nice old guy as he was.
We just had a guy from the CIA go on The Colbert Show and tell us our national policy across the planet is to blame for 9/11 ... and I think we all knew that ... after four decades of Plutocratic zeal and shadowy lies and deception ... Obama only looks like a Republican now to some because the center is maybe, just maybe, a kind of Goldwater-era conservatism mixed in with Kennedy-era sentimentality.
Which is why we have no idea which way each tea partier will swing, from one day to the next. Libertarians will always be a mixed bag of nuts, anyway. But I saw some talking head on TV dressed in a waistcoast looking thing that appeared as though she was going to try out to become the first lead singer for the 1960s counter-culture hit, Paul Revere and the Raiders.

And it gave me some actual hope. Remember that fleeting thing?

Hope.
Sure, my generation (I'm 51 now, a late baby boomer) danced away the 1980s to the antithetical tune of religious hypocrisy and political fakery, with the youth culture, and only the youth culture, seeming to be moving with enough mass-media savvy, through music channels, to pick up on the restoration of an alternative, via the agitprop bands from U2 to REM to Guadalcanal Diary to Nirvana to Pearl Jam.
Then came the meatspace money years of the Internet Era: The late 1990s. Especially 1996. When the FCC rules were pretty much set in motion and Al Gore worked with Congress to, in fact, "invent the internet." Actually, it was a government project going back to the 1960s to create a fail-safe plan to keep communications afloat in case of nuclear war. Then we turned it into a shopping mall. A parking lot for a war of words.

But it was hijacked, basically, by a bunch of Dungeons and Dragons gamers at MIT and Berkeley and Beyond!

Much to the consternation of Zeus, Prometheus gave man all the fire it ever needed: But was it enough?

Nope.

Look now: If you drew a line slightly curved across the planet from Venezuela, slightly turning downward, then heading back up toward North Korea, with China grinning in the middle, you would have a Smiley Face with very big teeth.
How did this happen? WTF?
We ffffeeed up bad after World War II, real bad. We blew it before we were even born, you and I and many of us, right down the unsuspecting river.
We sold our farms.
Then our grandparents and parents went out and spent their winnings on fast cars, fast food, supported a methane-dispensing meat industry to feed that demon, guns and tanks and missiles galore, to make sure we could gobble it all up, falling prey to the only winners who can afford taxes anymore, the oil companies and floating digital seas of international money storms called banks, all made fidgety by a tactile-neurotic e-trade sell-out, time-is-money mentality open to everyone with a electricity greedy little hand-operated devices, then traded our heritage for the empire dreams of the Skull of the Crossbones suicide cult for four decades, exploding our national surplus on a fireworks display in the Mideast, paying off handsomely for Haliburton this and Blackwater that, with pallets of cash guarded by under-supported National Guard kids driving Hummers down the unsafe narrow streets of Baghdad ... only to phock up the entire food chain and earthly delight called, interestingly, weather ... while that human-inspired climate change as experiment situation remains, deathly so, on the back burner.
Why won't these Republicans declare to get in a race to beat a guy who, from all appearances, is able to handle this crap. I can't imagine how they might want all of the drama? Can you?

The cult of personality is partially to blame.

Let's go to the movies. Let's talk about heroes.

Since I was old enough to visualize a screen, I have been absorbing stories about Lone Gunmen. They are the types of heroes who, like Robin Hood, attempt to defeat pure evil by themselves.

They are rebels without causes. They are Zoros, marked. They are Lone Rangers. Sometimes they have sidekicks. Tontoes. Robbins. Robots for Will Robinsons. They are Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. They are Bonnie and Clyde.

And guess what, they all fought the law, and the law wins. Or, at least, next week's episode is needed to resolve the inherent issues of battling pure evil. Or, at least, a sequel is necessary.

The fact is, two people can't do it alone. One won't, obviously. Too many fuckheads. Too many minions of hell. They have been way too organized for way too long and, basically, too many people, also minions of hell, find it way to profitable to keep it that way.

Go to "Democracy in America," by Alexis DeTocqueville, who observed that the best way to disassemble any opposition to the forces of tyranny and over-reaching authority is to divide and conquer.
This was before most labor unions in the U.S. came about. Before the revolutions, more evolved than those of the 18th and 19th centuries, came about.

But today we see whole sweeps of people, connected via technologies for communications burning away whole seemingly intractable regimes within a few years, months, days. Hour by hour.

How do you recognize the I want to keep my own pudding heads, then?

Well, follow the money. That always helps. But also check into this: Who is trying to split up the opposition with shadow games, deception? Also, who isn't being heard from, although they seem to be responsible (such as Dick Cheney during the BP oil spill fiasco).
The rat will always go into hiding when confronted with someone who wants to speak truth to power.

Also: People won't look you in the eye.

How else? God knows, doesn't care.
We decide. We. Decide.
Nobody else around, really.
It's plain as this: All hands on deck!
Sink, or swim.
We may not be able to save the world,
but we can save each other.
That could be a lot of people,
or just you, your family, your community,
your people, your planet.

"We" decide while "you" do not.
Dig?

28.2.11

 WTF?
If you can answer the following questions correctly, both God and the Devil, both the dying age of scientific rationalism and the coming age of pure Luddite ingenuity, as well as the eventual spokesperson for the final looming Armageddon to decide which is tastier, Pepsi or Coke, will grant you "peace on earth" for just one night and maybe until lunch the next day.
One: Are we voting for anything this week?
Two: While everyone has a pretty good idea of who their personal anti-Christ is, has the actual Jesus-to-be been located?
Three: Can you do anything about the weather?
And Four: Do you actually know WTF? ..
There are other questions, of course. Should we support unions? Support cities, towns, states, countries, embrace borders at all?

Should we get soft on gamblers? Let dogs marry cats? Consult our doctors? Marry our lawyers?

Listen to John McCain talk tough? Send a strongly worded missive to Big Bad Obama?

Who knows? WTF?

"Tough" is just a word for this dying age of old guys who once couldn't be trusted if they were over the age of thirty for very good reasons I care not to go into right now ... other than to say it seems strange to me that none of them have much to say about their military indoctrination films, can't remember, etc. All I know is if you mention Ronald Reagan they start clapping like seals.

Not that there's anything wrong with seals.

You can support the police supporting the protesters in Madison, Wisconsin, but there's nothing more intense than trying to listen to a couple of law enforcement guys commiserate themselves into a steroid-driven huff as they discuss the nuances of their bennies.

Meanwhile, even broader forms of united messengers are still to emerge: Call them Team Yahoo. Team Google. Team Huffington, Team Twitter, Team FOX, Team Maddow, Team Colbert and Team  Howl.

We'll just have to wait for the coach of Team Glenn Beck to get fired, though Team Rush Limbaugh, that puss-filled miscreant, might be looking for a job soon ... and therefore, singing to a different tune.

I look forward to being indifferent to that.

And Team Facebook? As wide open and mind-melding as that's growing up to be ... It was just sold to a Russian investor who just might be newly corporate KGB.

The last Twitter invite I received was from a CNN reporter who received his schooling from the U.S. Army signal intelligence corpse.

So I immediately "unfriended" him.

I felt first relieved, then sad, about that.

Anyway, both Twitter and Facebook are what used to be called intranets. What I used to call, a decade ago, roach motels. You can get your head fully immersed in both.

The question is: Can you get it out?

All of these have been sent into motion by a set of swirling eddies of human passions, scientific inquiry and business theories built upon mass social research perfected into a kind of weapon by the masters of manipulation ... so many of these, turning their screws, but they don't play well with each other, nor listen to each other very well, either.

As old sound gets louder in these deafening corners of  greed and discontent, the details are all well beyond clear understanding. Why bother even trying to understand?

I watched FOX News for more than an hour on Sunday evening, after my usual drifting around the triad of CNN, MSNBC and the Weather Channel, then I checked the paper. Went, "Nope." Unless I'm hideously mistaken, I've got nothing to vote on for quite some time now.

I don't want a gun. Do I need one?
You can't fight the weather. The galaxy is treating the planet like an ant colony, HARP isn't hiring,
left
and right
were born to fight,
and the sun will do what the moon does not, or visa versa ... um, vital, "V" is for victory, when nobody is the clear winner ... Whoever Nobody is ... whatever.

Same for the planets. Even for those, we learn now, are very close, but can't see.

But if exnophobia is playing off xenophobia, and order imposed creates "chaos," which is only a word meaning " incomprehension" for whatever passes for "normal" or, "paranormal," at any time of day ... then I think the best choice is to step away, look away and watch the passion play.

So, to keep this short: Amazement is our leading national recourse,
and while there's nothing more exhausting than inaction,
to create more waves only intensified the human storm.
Swim with the shore. Swim with the shore.

That's what the Hopi wise man is once claimed to say.

However, this statement has not been fact-checked.

Just  watchin' the wheels go round-and-round. Indeed, indeed. God, I sure do miss John Lennon. Wish the Dahli Llama would come 'round more often.

But it's still winter, and right now it's not so bad that what should be snow on the plains of the Midwest has turned to rain instead ... so I'll just wait some more for the sun come round again to smile for a while ... until I finally know:
 What the Fuck!

23.2.11

Hello, Colonel Gadhafi, Khaddafy,
Quadaffi, Whatever, Duffy Duck ...
We've Seen the Real You at Last

... And so, there I was, trying to figure out how I was going to be able to de-Facebook 1,001 points-of-light Facebook "friends" because, clearly, having learned quite well from corporate America that the only real way to make money was to eliminate real people from the equation, when, out of the sands of the desert, looming with the body of a beast, but the face of an angry little man, loomed yet another demon of the week ... this time: Colonel Gadhafi.

... And so I thought, gee, isn't this interesting ... I'm staring at this guy on TV just like I did with watching the BP oil spill footage of, you know, that Wormwoodian image of the voyage to the bottom-of-the-sea horror show ... and it pretty much spoiled a perfectly good day, otherwise, in Mythville ... even if there was, going on at the time, a geomagnetic storm, an undeclared World War III, global revolution and all kinds of social dysfunctions in our own country that we can't be proud of.

... And so what was really pissing me off was this: Thirty years ago, as a reporter intern at the now defunct Scottsdale Progress, in Scottsdale, Arizona, the last thing I did was file a synopsis of everything I could find out about Colonel Gadhafi ... right before I went back to college at the University of Arizona. Two things haunted me. The first was this: The look on the faces of my editor who thought I was a pretty silly little lad. I mean, I was like 12-years-old, at the time, seems to me ... and that look was a look of pity. It made me mad, yesterday, thinking about that. Nobody ever gets me until, like, ten years after I tell them something. But then, maybe just a few months later after filing that, the Reagan Administration tried to take Gadhafi out ... and that same editor, who I called on the phone to remind them that I had filed that report, said, "Really?"

She was very excited and appreciative and I think they ran it in the paper.

... My second haunting thought, yesterday, was this: This looks just like a Nastradamus movie from about that same period. In fact, it seemed to me, whenever these little devils appear on the stage, it always looks like a Nostradamus movie to me. But let's not get into, right now, why it is that the film industry is so hell bent and providing us with imaginative, pixilated fiilmmage, of the end of the world. Not even if you, too, my be wondering if everybody, especially the CEOs of the corporations who fund these motion pictures, might have something better to do ... if they really believed in all of this crap!

... My mind then, haunting itself forward, really began to see that every generation has its anti-Christ or two, since, say, The Crusades. And that was a bunch of ... from generation to generation ... a bunch of hoaxed up crap funked up by this or that pope ... in order to keep people busy from raping and pillaging all of Europe ... sending them to the Middle East ... so they could just rape and pillage and play Crusades in and around Jerusalem instead, for fun and far more profit to ... you guessed it, the Catholic Church.

... By this time my mind was churning. I kept thinking about all of the times, from the Ayatollah Khomeini to Saddam Hussein to this completely unspellable black bat (not that there's anything wrong with being black or bats in general) in Iran ... and now, again, this incredibly ffffeddd up mad man, Colonel Gadhafi ... that even they have been conned by this or that type of mythic self-delusion, maybe even seeing the same Nostradamus movies, as well.

... As well as the fact that every generation, especially since the dawn of major media (for instance, Hitler's time), such myths have been used on the masses for political points. But, if you follow the money, also for far less prophetable purposes during the last half of the 20th (and now 21st century), to destabilize the Middle East ... and to therefore, crank up the price of oil ... all for fun and profit.

... Anyway, don't take my "unfriending" you personally. You can simply re-invite yourselves personally. Maybe after doing a little soul-searching, I hope, about your failures in doing much to participate or re-invest in this fine little dictatorship I have been running here. Believe me, if I have room, within my limitation of 5,000 Facebook friends, I won't bust you for requesting to be friends, again. That's just a word, anyway. Friends. Family. Whatever. It's really just a link to the network, and I'm trying my best to get to know everyone. Takes a long time, you see. Especially with all of these hauntings of faked up demons going on to mythaproppriate into images, columns, e-book stories about such terrors, poems, and so on. I just try to run it like a giant night club right now, and so I rotate everyone. See you again, soon, and so on ... dot calm.

16.2.11

Toward the End
of the Beginning

And so the Sun said onto them, "Look" ...
and they all went blind ... And the Moon
said onto them, "See? He's crazy!"
and then turned back upon the Sun
and beamed, brightly, saying,
"I told you they wouldn't get it."

So the Sun turned back upon the Moon,
and said onto it, in pity at its barren soul,
telling it, with August pride, "Wait till Eight!"
And so the Moon died, pitted and cracked,
and Man, having learned to look away
from the Sun, humble and on his or her knees,
cried out to the cruel, angry bright orb, "Why?"

And so the Sun answered, "Love, Me,"
but they could only answer back, still blind,
deafened by the roar, asking, "Who was that?"
And the Moon waited and waited,
circling like a one-eyed Horus Hawk,
and said back to the sun, more brightly,
"See ... see ... see? I can anger the sea!
I told you they would never get the Joke."

And so the Sun burned ever brighter
every vivid century, every thirteen years,
saying onto them, "Really, really, really ...
Love, Me ... I'll even hand off a single Flame
for you to abuse in my ever-brighter Name."
But they only burned brighter, and the Moon
laughed and laughed, turning to blood-red,
drifting, dreaming blues, and jeered back
at the Sun, "They need a flood now, Fool!"

And so the suspicious Sun sent them Flood,
and Fire and all but a few of them all but died,
and those who remained cried out to the clouds,
"O why? ... O why? ... O why? ... O why O why?"
And the Sun, hearing this, said onto them,
"See, see, see, learn this and I'll burn brighter,
give you a lighter, a brick and more mortar,
so more of you can begin to understand, each day ..."

And the Moon, still waiting, swayed and shook,
struggling to break free, laughing hysterically,
in a mass media breakdown of social disease ...
"I can divide, conquer and count to Three!"

And so the Sun, out of incomplete frustration,
said onto them, "Okay. Okay. Okay ...
I'll just burn you silly motherfuckers up,"
sending a purple and orange plume
of fire their way, every three days,
and they said, "Seems to be neither
oops nor here or what or why, just sky,"
while the lands all burned and the seas
all boiled into steam at the year Thirteen,
killing them ... and the Earth, quiet again,
whispered, "Cool, I can finally get some sleep."

The Solar Bath

She awoke
shapely but shaken
And I watched her bathe
In blinding electricity
Beneath the solarized sky
Tiamat met Zeus
Were unable to reach
The porch to punish her
And over the cornfields
Of Republicanated Iowa
Thunder a’ trumpeted,
And Tesla’s lightning
Failed to defeat her,
And solar light bounced
Off the feet of her
Bouncing upwards
Off the earth, to fire
Up the weaponized,
Quite culinary clouds
On the ninth
anti-anniversary
Of September Eleventh
She awoke shapely but shaken
As the neighborhood watchers
Faded away like gargoyles,
Draconian unbeings,
As the Ta’ Iowan
dawn made
The winds sing
A new day, and all
The old fucked up
Old ghosts all
But ran away
I watched her bathe
In electricity last night
As we watched the watchers
And then all of the watchers
Started signing in Morse Code
And before dawn we chased
Each other around
Wondering which one
Was pretending to be
The scariest and smartest
of them witches on
the mirror ball wall
And internationalist
Viagran huntsmen fumbling
For newsy spells to foul
The electrician’s switches
As the shapely but shaken
Wake up call doomed up
A first breath of hurricane fires
Churning up in the earns of the earth
And I imagined how the tectonics
Of the globe might burst
Sending more seawater, yes,
Up from down below,
Way way way down below
More even than
the moon can send
if Zeus ever came back
to toss that old rock
down again
And before dawn she bathed
In a lake of fire
Sent down from the sky
And we all chased down
The shapely but shaken
Without causing a ruckus
Or a Venusian star
to start screaming
About her long lost
Gothic Civil rights

Gothic January

Two lovers shared
a broken tree
to burn a fire
to stay warm from thee
while the knight
took the queen out
for a dance
beneath the sun
the military marched
to the frozen One
and success, and strife
rode a chariot
to a star
to make happiness
a drink
at the oxygen bar
and I told you,
"I can't boil oil now ...
I'm kinda in the mystic
just a little bit;
in circles, in pinwheels,
in cyberstazi
and the FBI,
in the lLamb
who walked
beneath January's
darkened agnostic sky ..."
as the lovers dreamed
and the gargoyles stood
in summer corn stalks,
in frozen wood,
within a circular steam
within a steam
and you laughed love,
come back to me

Hermit By the Sea

Were I but a byte hermit
I'd sing of thee from distant shores,
but God was just a comet,
no Martian, no comment,
nor mere baseball dream
...from some Elysian Field
of Soprano Land, Idi Amin,
but a stellar dark star dwarf,
who rules now like an oaf
on Egyptian soil, living off
your sweet sugar's gasahol,
your machine asp ass sugar loaf!

Serotonin

How different
might history be
if Hitler is able
to take a three-hour
nap on a certain
New Year's Day
of America's choice?
If he had been able
to feel the cool alert
behind his eyes
that his view
had been a bit
cross and yes,
maybe a bit more
blue oil paint
would do and yes, yes,
that Leonard Bernstein
cat is groovy
and yes, Custer,
that guy, had turned around
to let the sea
of the dispossessed
catch up on their own cruelty
and consider to let just
a few of those bastards
live to tell a real story
of mercy to the newspapers
back home, that to win
a war of genocide
was no mercy
and the cornflakes
in my own head
were nothing but alcohol
stains upon daylight
clouds of peace?

Bombing Run

Say what you want
about the low lifers,
tyranny begins
at a very high
altitude
because,
gosh darn it
beating my guts
in Oppositeland
is very high praise,
because what you call
a Tea Party is really
not even dinner,
because ancient drums,
the many tom tom toms
are just the steady
pound on a tenderloin
of the mind
turned into a tender drum
sweet and kind and pure
and even if Walmart
broke the place up bad,
one more purchase
at the near-dead
country store
just might
make just enough
difference

Where Sir Freudo
Lost the Ring

The morning began
and never ended
quite unlike many others
as I stood like
one of those granddad old
palace sentries
who guarded monarchs
at their pearly gates,
expressionless, zombiefied
in next to last Templar mode,
poised and posed, metalurgy
realized to be hurtful treasure
for TNT people, useless as they
come and go, now rendered,
once again, quite pointlessfully,
as a word picture with a blue sharpie,
purchased in San Francisco
by Saint Francis of Assissi ...
upward, turned back toward Zeus,
his challenger ... Him who once
maintain in Spain great
bloody mountains of gold
taken from small brown men
who knew of nothing more
to see Sheriff Joe Arapaio
as nothing less than
an avenging Lord of Death ...
He from across the sea
failed to learn more beautiful
things than bad code scrolled
by a false fundamentalist God,
false single immutable sword,
a word that can't be weighed,
edited, reconsidered,
in a Bible black brick
by burn barrel people
who, iron cast, in their rejoicing,
instead deciding to send
the Ring of Doom
back to his maker
at the foot of Father Washington
in a statue beneath the snow

is outta sorts

Unreadable tattoo,

Railroads are nice

But I can't pay the price

Is it too late to lie

Devolution of Arizona

Arizona, I don't recognize you anymore
Your creosote roots lie beneath
the perfect piles of McDonalds parking lots

Arizona, an unequal symmetry
of rubble piles collect
Ten thousand miles from here,
the angry sun awakes, a lion,
the wind pulls sacred smoke
around the window
and out the door

I scream into silence

Arizona, you are responsible ...
The middle-aged businessman
with expendable income
sweats for pleasure
and I feel
"pretty peppered"
by it all

Arizona, when can I stop swearing?

I swear in the heat like a pizza oven
Arizona, you are a car part store
but you got no glass to see through
and the beige collection
of air-conditioned caves
are conditioned to respond
in all the right meets wrong ways

The forests are in ashes
as the governor gapes
from a helicopter high
for the diversionary tactic
of the the unrael politic
and asks the spotlight
to "move on"

The spotlight will not
"move on," the world
is watching

Arizona, I can find no fluid,
no friend, nor car phone
to lean on
for company ...

The wolf is watching

By GPS, without your bullets in fistfuls
you can find me in the living room,
darkly lit, with rayolight flashing
bible black blurbs
on non-violence
cursing your name

Arizona, not even Ginsberg
would gripe about your tripe,
so blurred with anonymity
hell hardly matters anymore

Arizona, my life's belongings
are melting in a storage facility
and there are more things that beep
here than I can count
my frozen assets
of the heart

Arizona, you haven't hassled me for a while,
though I'm a loose cannon at the mousy mouth
... The world is flooding, bleeding,
burning blinding in high winds from above
as you dry up and blow away

Arizona, heart patients are being denied,
a kid got crushed in your parking lot
and I went to one of your social service buildings
and was amazed about how many homeless lurks
were sleeping in the lobby,
dreaming of Mississippi burning

Arizona, I can't get assistance at the cash register
and the mountains are closed, cats run free,
the lizards have disappeared,
to plot secret revenge
to assuage denial

Arizona, you are sucking in souls,
eating them, spitting them out,
at very low wages ...
of sin ... I suppose ...
and six are dead now,
six!

How long? How many more?

Arizona, I think you should
battalion the borders with snow
and big bad bars of soap,
painting you headless
telegraph cross with wires,
tin cans of TNT
and a sacrificed fox
also known as "truth"

Beepee City Blues (Forgive But Don't Forget)

Awake in a captured American city,
wide awake, uncommon and conquered
by Beepee, of thee I sing: see the greenish
star sign, flag of my new queen, no king ...

And so this is the new valley, forged
by a poisoned sea. You see? I stared
into your dark and bubbling gurgle
of gore, too long, and now I have lost
my heart, owning my death, drowned
and alive, in little bubbles of grease ...

And yours, in these hours, drifting back
into sleep now, uncovering the brown loam
of anguished grief, in the Paris of the prairie,
dreaming of the fairies, who bleep my name,
cursing my overdone disinfected dysfunction ...
but I'm awake now, pumping into function

At discourse with the junction of light and dark,
on my electronic ark, loading the animals now,
my music, your now now and my then then, to thine
angels we seek truth, cruel, my belly, your barrel
of hell, spelled out now in the sweetspilled spice
of good medicine, served in a box of Davey Jones,
containing my heart at the bottom of the Gulf,
and birds drop out of the sky
between me and you ...
crashing, singing,
"squeak, squeak."

Eyes Wide Open

America, your Tombstone, Arizona,
stands out, in memorial balloons,
talking heads of post-gunfire analysis,
in anguished memories echoing
gunfire, in flowers left upon
the furnace of revolution,
in the mixed up mindspace
of mistreated man-monster
assassins, in creature comforts
shaken like broken tablets
given by Moses, by the mere
shattered jerking around
of horrifying images
to television commercials
where we are asked
to ask our doctors

We the people are capable
of so much more: Capable
of surgeons able to render
miracles far more healing
than moon missions,
predator strikes
from deep in the sky,
from quick stock fixes,
dialing up foxes,
connected by two-year
contracts on cell phones,
by unholy secret armies
unleashed upon the world
but now rendered
in one sick sad baldface
mad hatter joker fuck,
who decided to make
history by shedding
your blood, and your children's
children's blood, to make
that point, old pointy,
that no one else could give
a hearing to because,
old shriner shiner,
it pays too much
for the talking skull,
to answer the one question
it can't answer for itself: Why?

The map is fully dotted now,
with hands holding hands
and yet we can't all seem
to becalm the energies
flowing from the angry sun
because, dear masters,
the amplified drug lords
of commerce, offer more
ailments, sick sad treatments
that have nothing to do
with love, just money,
just time for bull markets
and disinformation

We can dream,
point to our heroes,
and tolerbrate
a forgivenness
of our sins,
sometimes
only as long
as the car ride
home

Clearly, nature
is doing its damndest
to show us our faces,
our spewing missed
places as fomenters
of foul foams
guzzling up
from the bottom
of our beer bottles
and polarized teas

Listen to the water,
America; listen
for gentle silenced
sounds, in cattle cars
racing by, in delivery
trucks chasing us around
with backwards beeping
to greet each morning,
to failures to answer
the myriad echoes
of grieving sisters
for suicide cults
set too hard
on logic chopping,
on passions, on reason,
to the revolutionary
flavors of the season,
to rocket ships made
for secret mission masters,
to lies sold as truth
in penciled in televised
image makers, harbingers
of false light, false words,
false perpetrators
of plans against you,
America, plans beyond
pure reason, just plans,
authority zones of controls
intended for our sponsors
of capital gains, tax dodges,
miniscule media channels
to jail up the Jonahs,
the Joans, arching , marching,
moving forward to nurture us,
to set love right, for Job,
so he can no longer suffer
in the error of St. Paul's
jealous rage and error

Fear, no mind reader,
can open our eyes
for the first time, America,
open them, now, read see feel
your own bodies, connected
to the whole earth,
not just your slicing borders
for the first rotten time

Sputnik Moment

Spoken like an angel of light
in the halls of Pandemonium,
purple ties, in harmonium,
Robespierre without peers,
silver tongued saint,
to the tainted, with silvery hair,
shadows taller than wind,
caught in corners,
making loud old sounds,
growing louder,
making the case, without debate,
as the illusive image flickers,
without debate,
mixing the media-phors
about nothing being funny,
about peace love understanding
holding hands across America
to all the sweet voices of nobodies,
silent majorities, loud-mouthed
minorities, frozen out, surrounding
blue-lit burn barrels, yearning
for the golden ghosts of yesteryear,
receiving instead, this Plutonic tonic,
with nothing but their imaginations,
all beer-soaked and dumbed down
to go with the drifts of currents,
mountains, prairies and stars

In the woods the mind
has much mistaken,
the currency of the re-awakened,
all mankind peering inside his apple,
his words written in two mirrors,
written down twice, eyes sympathetic
to the two faces of citified man,
Luddites locked out, being the divided
electronic icicles, turning red or blue,
waiting for the mail gone paperless,
to poets seeking heat from cornstalks
covered in snow, to laughing waters
flooding now, measured in GPS miles,
in cool and sleazy breezy smiles

And this perfect image,
with a different vision
for the Everyman, offers
an acre, a plot, a carnage
of a green and pleasant land,
where the clean air is unclean,
and the last waters, thundering mean,
with books to burn, words in earns,
facts gone to myth ... blown this kiss
with posts on the wall, unreadable
mega-bit tattooes and star bright
Twitter accounts, in aeons, gurus
keeping track of stock options,
riding in limousines, praying in their pines
of a dim-lit Sputnik rendered into far stars,
wishes in dreams gone to daylight footballs
in darkened Sunday afternoon bars
as light and time shines in two suns so bright,
not a dead star but a man made overflight,
searching for reasons, for something to say
they stuck around for ... a last tree,
a bit of grass, all caged behind bars
in this house of infinite mirrors,
the Saint has joined the sinners

My Own Private Elbaho

Going down periscope
to chase away the snakes
I dream of an island
where the beautiful
muses wake
a sunny volcanic
spit where the blood
is washed from stones
and cloud-buffed skies
are imaginary tomes
for paupers, princes
kings and queens of old,
a place I'll now call
my private Elbaho

She dreams of green
magic mountains
where Solznenitzen
once roamed
and growled
about peanuts,
salt shakers,
peppers, pie and tea,
angry and set alone:
"She's a sweet muse
who seldom comes
to me, her hurt,
mere words,
mere soundless
bytes of sea,
mere thought,
faceless as
facelessness
can be ..."

She of mad hills,
winter thrills,
billed to gravity,
She who hides like spring
a secret Persiphone ...

The flowers on her
her breasts fuel
perfect company
as mourning mad
mountains, sunless
SAD disease ...
Buried in silence
beneath baddass
endless snows
she lives now happy
in her private Elbaho

Not Another Parking Lot for Words

Made sure the windows
were all wide open
for this brittle haus warning,
God forbid the warming, should we
ever break dead with reclaiming
witches reclaiming their food
for thought and kindness I offered,
them never tasting the bread ...
They insisted they could save me
and then, the saving being done,
called me the devil, the devil,
the devil, three times,
before they were One ...

And compassion is a virtue
sold out in short supply,
gathered in plenty

And there you were, with my backlit
ghost behind the suffused
dark arts behind the computer
screen’s white apple byte light,
the difference between innocence
and knowledge being sub-atomic,
it’s positively Platonic,
allegorical, hysterical ...
when you ask for a cigarette
since it’s my personal policy
to only give out one Spirit
per hour to the hopeless ...
(I mean homeless) ... and if they
claim to have hope I give them three:
That’s how homeless hopelessness can be.

So it’s back to my parking lot for words,
worlds within worlds,
but way far from the gypsy cafes
as Napoleon, fresh face-i-fied,
sleepwalks into Starbucks to be reborn
in its iconic cup of Gaian
corporate glee, which may be good news,
just maybe ... since I saw
a Thunderbird in my dreams,
then his shirt logo of the same
damn military echelon of wings,
eagle spread winking,
he, a soldier sure, retired, moneyed,
yes, a super serene Baby Bomber ...
A crier of you know what? ...
Can’t you hear their birdseye cries,
they are, bling-winged batbirds who cry,
repacking themselves, after landing,
in their imperial cruiser esuvees:
I saw a documentary
on their disappearing, once,
on mah MTVeeee! I guess I need
them more than they need me.

Then one more comes in,
a walking zombie cell phone call
after parking a black hawk
Land Rover, gee ...
she has camo flag pants in tune
to those photos on the big electronic

BBS .. SBB...Bss...BS...Bs...BS...

of Iranian missile launches
all doctored up to be seen
by this property, this land
for you and me ...

(Hey man what’s the plan
what was that you sai-i-i-d
sun tan, sun man, drinking head,
lying there in bed?
You who tried to socialize
but couldn’t seem to find
what just what, Jethro,
you were looking fer,
that sumpin’
on your mind)

But a big heron circles
over Starbucks, wide white
sailing, neither failing
nor flailing
with black-tipped wings
... and just as strangely
I almost missed, the ponytailed
programmer in a Prius
as a potential friend
to send this give up, this smoke,
this one-per-hour cigarette of hope
to a guy wearing a turqoise bracelet: Hey! Hey!

Hey ...

I just got a medal in my dream:
A Thunderbird re-e-e-e-ward,
and another laugh, a smile,
from a strong blueish blonde blondee
bird driving a white trash Ford.

Thunderbolt

The Reformed Presbyterian Church
was hit by a thunderbolt
and Morning Sun, Iowa
was rendered back to the year
Nineteen Fifty One

And brother Jesus
sat on his Cardinal corner
with the ghosts of three gauzy
British colonial columns
behind him, more than twice
the height of the man
commanding them,
who lives four or five
times more often in life
than in death,
but who's counting?

Meanwhile, the local fire captain,
Tom "Torch" Lawyer
sits as the Grand Poopba
in the unmarked Oddfellows Hall ...
He, a Big Brother, of the weather map
and he sings, "O Hey, Gaia, what did I do?"

"O yeah, there was that, and that and that ...
I'm so sorry angry sun, sorry for this,
sorry for that ... O Kracken King Igor,
heavy weather hanging from across the plains
to the mountains once made pleasant
from Denver, Colorado
to Bloomington, Indiana:
Where John Cougar Mellencamp
is still wearing his hard hat ...

"Please, O Kracken,
spare me your change
and please spare
me some of my favorite
old mason bricks,
and spare me
from my brats

"Leave me one
Rosetta stone
and at least three
favored stocks
for six hundred
and sixty six
Fortune 500 companies
and please sponsor
my one last storm rider
so he can broadcast,
like Paul Revere in silver
my long last broadcast
on the Weather Channel
on Ruppert Murdoch's
Blue Ray Disc-shaped
magic Thunderbird carpet,
so that music can still be
piped in like rock'n'roll
in a cowboy hat
at the local Wal Mart

"And spare me your golden
spike in natural gas,
your January jolt
in coffee prices,
and spare me your sanguine
advice on what to expect
and spare me your photo radar
lanes used by Fed Ex,
and spare me your
weaponized Pineapple Express
as it tingles a trio
of water spouts
across the forty eighth paralell

"But please remind me later
to use a higher quality
white ashy paint
so I can smile upward
with a stun gun kept
quite safe behind my back
as I move beneath overhanging
chemtrail inspired clouds
to keep my doormats dry
when you try to reclaim
your honestly inward saints

"And tell that bastard
Mr. Ringo, he's running
out of time, and though
he bought a Wal Mart sold
Chinese-made plastic compass
that we have him lined up
in our electronic eye sights
and he'll never get across
King Henry the Eight's
magical river line

"Because, you see,
Medicare doesn't cover
everything,
especially his supposedly
secure bright and sunny
horizons, or bullets
or my elitist religious conceits
because he can't use his cell phone
or even mark a fully mastered retreat
with the sunspots buzzing up auroras
against his great hope for liberties
because they will always cost him more
than his lonely Roosevelt socialist dime

"Say a big hello
to that second toughest
man in America,
that next-to-last Templar
because I can see, feel and read
the second coming of Joan of Arc
sleeping in her shrine ...
'Coswe all know there's nothing
more exhausting than inaction
and his sacred pen as shotgun
won't bring his dead doggies back

"So hey! Angry Solari,
let's just say it was all
a good old boy's
misunderstanding
and even if the annointed We
run the risk of getting heart arrested,
or if sanctified gloomy We
speed through our Freemason made
towns, rocket launched
at the speed
of thirteen million
miles per hour,
and even if Johnny Ringo
can teach himself
to silence the two stormy
coasts in the centered
silences of his mind,
we can cut off his touch
to Taiowa her in Iowa
in order to remain in Tombstone
to review the cannons loaded,
in the late afternoon aspenglow,
as they are pointed
at Cochise's last stronghold
so that we, alone, can enjoy
the bonny bones of Norteneo
from our weaponized
plastic transister radio,
nor can he enjoy sweet
Maggie Marlowe, sleeping
in nicotine terrified migraines
without a tweet in our jail-baited
basements humming up thunder
from our cold dark basements
down below, so we can
keep up our plans to sell off
glassified dead scorpions
to the last of the plutocratic
touristas at the high noon
military movie show."

The Queens of Suckdom:  (Above) Ashley Greene,
Kristen Stewart and Maggie Grace of the "Twilight" TV series.

Interview
with a Vampire
Interview Interviewer

The Interviewer: And so, Mr. Douglas McDaniel, aka "Mythville," aka "Radio Free Arizona," as in secret agent RFA, artist formerly known as deejay Dougie Fresh, Mr. Run DMC, just why is it, exactly, that you think vampire culture in America sucks so bad.

Vampire Interviewer: Well, I've run across all sorts of folks in life, but I have never actually met a vampire. Therefore, I'm wondering why there seem to be so many of them portrayed in the media. It's as ubiquitous as fears of flag burners used to be in the Reagan era.

The Interviewer: Holy Ronald Reagan! That goes way back. But such television shows as "Twilight" are innocuous, aren't they?

Vampire Interviewer: No such thing. I just get a little sarcastic at the video store now when there are 50 of these DVDs on the shelves and one copy of Michael Moore's "Bowling for Columbine" or, say, "Food, Inc." They are so much profound, but seem to be real-life depictions of real-life vampires. That is a word I have been using very commonly ever since the Depression hit during the era of Bush II. Lately, I've been trying to use it less, but I still see we have become a little obsessed with something that appears to be a mere archetype of something far more serious within.

The Interviewer: Like what?

Vampire Interviewer: Well, it may just be some kind of expression of sexual overindulgence. Perhaps a video graphic for the teen underclass of unrequited love. Perhaps in their overabundant need and pressure to express themselves as sexual predators, they are simply being fed by what they want by a bunch of cynical Master of the Universe types in media who have read all of their TMT reports.

The Interviewer: What is TMT?

Vampire Interviewer: Hell if I really know .. actually, it's something from an old Al Franken book I bought at the Salvation Army store ... but then, who knows anything anymore? Such as, what, exactly is "cloud computing"? Just another one of these sinister things outside the reach of the unwashed, all those watching the shadows on the wall, while the Masters of the Universe, the money boys are pulling the strings.

The Interviewer: What does this have to do with vampires?

Vampire Interviewer: I dunno, man. It's your interview. Shoot.

The Interviewer: Shoot! You heard gunfire?

Vampire Interviewer: Another one of those words I wished we used less, "shoot," "shot," "shooter" ... I hate guns ...

The Interviewer: But don't you believe in your constitutional right to bear arms?

Vampire Interviewer: Bear arms? In summer, sure ... but AK47s at the restaurant? Say, Isn't an Ak47 a Soviet-made weapon, anyway? Who, as a red-blooded American would argue to have those around the house, anyway?

The Interviewer: Auuugggggghhhhhhhhggghgggh!

Vampire Interviewer: Exactly. My words, exactly. Not exactly my words, really, but an emotion. Not so much an emotion, or should we say, emoticon, but most certainly a guideline.

The Interviewer: Are there any vampires you might endorse, such as those depicted in Anne Rice novels?

Vampire Interviewer: Well, she sure has done her research, and I like the way she writes, but boy, she sure does have to write a lot to make a living. Which leads me to think that the real vampires in our society are the instiutions of the arts, who, shall we say, drive their carts over the bones of the dead. How much suffering does it take, after all, to create such and such a work of art, only to have some publisher or book distributor come around and take a percentage? Why can't artists just get more for their trouble, rather than having these vampires who happen to own, say, bookshelves in retail spaces, get forty to fifty percent?

The Interviewer: Don't you think they work for a living? They go to a lot of work to keep the lights on.

Vampire Interviewer: I know, but ... At least the metaphor on oil companies is pretty obvious. I'm thankful I don't have to explain that to anyone today.

The Interviewer: Finally, one last question.

Vampire Interviewer: Okay, shoot.

The Interviewer: Aughhguaghhggghhghgghuuagghhgggghgh!

Vampire Interviewer: That's not a question. That's a statement of fact, an emoticon actually, addressing a deeper anxiety and social sick ... ness .. O no, a vampire bat! Shit!
